Bluetooth is not Shown in Device Manager

People are encountering problems of "Bluetooth adapter disappears from device manager" from time to time especially after an OS update such as from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10. What to do if bluetooth is not working or shown in device manager? This article explored several solutions.

Solution 1: Install a Correct Driver for Your Bluetooth Module

When bluetooth stopped working, you can no longer connect any devices via bluetooth, worse still, the bluetooth is nowhere to be found on the computer, neither in the Control Panel nor in the Device Manager. It is most likely that the device driver is missing, outdated or broken. The efficient and quick solution is to find and install a correct driver for it. There are several ways to find a proper driver for your device, but the quickest and easiest way is to use the automatic driver finder software Driver Talent.

fix bluetooth not working

Driver Talent is a very easy-to-use and helpful program designed to analyze, find and install drivers for all Windows hardware like bluetooth, audio card, video/graphic adapter, motherboard, network card, mouse, keyboard, USB wireless adapter and more USB-connected devices. Anyone can operate it without any difficulty to solve driver issues. Download it for a try and enjoy more great features.

Please note that your bluetooth may be listed in the Peripheral Drivers section if it is not listed in the Download & Update section because PCI bluetooth will be listed in the Download & Update and USB bluetooth will be listed in the Peripheral Drivers section.

Solution 2: Remove Suspicious Software That May Result in the Disappearance of Bluetooth

Sometimes, certain software will kill the bluetooth on your Windows. I heard a true story about this before.

"After I install he the cyberpower UPS software, I cannot use my bluetooth, nor can I find it from anywhere on my computer. Then, I uninstalled it to see if it is the source of my problem. After a restart, I typed "bluetooth" in the search box and the "change bluetooth settings" link appeared. I also found the bluetooth icon to reappear in the device manager. Therefore, the UPS backup software kills the Bluetooth on Windows 8.1!"

I don't know if there is other suspicious software but if the case is similar to the above, that is, right after you install a certain piece of software that your bluetooth is not working. Then the software may be the source.

Solution 3: Do a System Restore from a Normal Point

No matter what problems occurred on your computer, a system restore is an efficient choice. Just restore it to the back date where there is no problem. After that, all the updates made after the back date will disappear including the bluetooth issue. However, if there is important update and files, remember to backup them before the system restore.

Solution 4: Re-enable the Bluetooth Adapter

This is only working for those whose bluetooth is shown in Device Manager and can't connect devices via bluetooth.
  • Click Start menu, input "device manager" in the search box and press Enter to open the DeviceManager.
  • Expand your bluetooth adapter, right click on it, choose Disable, then Enable.

Top Ways to Fix "Laptop Touchpad Not Working"

Laptop's Touchpad Stops working

"The built-in Synaptic touchpad on my notebook no longer works, making Windows nearly impossible to use. Even the touchpad scrolling not working! I am so disappointed because I don't have a mouse here."

Imagine that without a mouse, touchpad or other pointing device, how can you use a Windows PC? So it is really disappointing when your touchpad suddenly stopped working without a mouse on hand.

This page covers several common fixes to resolve on-functioning touchpad.

How to Troubleshoot Touch Pad Not Working

Method 1. Reboot Your Laptop

The first fix should be painfully obvious - Restart your laptop. If the problem just started, this may be the easiest troubleshooter. We know, anything that's got in a mess gets the chance to start over by computer restart. The OS and the software gets to a new start with a reboot.

Method 2. Update Touchpad Driver

If you got this problem in a Windows upgrade like from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10, the most possible cause is that Windows installed an incorrect driver for your touchpad. If this is the case, don't worry! A simple touchpad driver update will fix it.

To update driver, you have 2 ways.

The 1st Way: Use 3rd party driver downloader and updater tool

Here I recommend free software DriveTheLife and take it as the example to show how to update touchpad driver automatically.
  • Then, install and launch it, an automatic driver scan will begin. This is collecting and analyzing your Windows drivers. Any drivers in question will be listed after scan.
  • Next, check the notice message to see whether your touchpad driver is normal. If not, you just need to tick touchpad and click Start to download and install a correct touchpad driver.

touchpad not working

  • At last, reboot your computer to let the new driver take effect.

The 2nd Way: Download driver from manufacture's website and install it manually

  • Firstly, go to the manufacture's website. It is either your touchpad manufacture's website like Synaptic or your notebook manufacture like Asus, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, Toshiba, Acer, HP, Sony and so on.
  • Then search with "touchpad model and name + driver" inside. Note that you should download the right driver depending on your OS (Windows 7, 8 or Windows 10) with 32bit or 64bit.
  • Next, download and install it manually.
  • At last, restart Windows after the installation is done.

Method 3. Change Mouse & Touchpad Settings

  • Navigate to the Start Menu type change mouse settings in the Search field, then press Enter.
  • In the mouse Properties window, click the tab that seems to be for your touchpad (the name varies from model to model). Make sure that everything is enabled. If there are Settings buttons, make sure that everything is on.
  • Select no delay and click "additional mouse options"
  • In the new window for mouse options you will see ELAN tab (maybe the name of your pad is different). If you see ELAN pad disabled, enable it and deselect the option "disable when external USB point xxxxxxx"
  • Click Apply and OK

Method 4. Repair Corrupted Operating System Files

Another possible cause for a malfunctioning touchpad is corrupted operating system files.
You have 2 ways to fix the corrupted system files.

1. Restore your computer to a restore point at a date prior to when the touchpad stopped working.

2. Perform an complete restore process of the Windows OS, that is, a clean install of Windows.

If you are unable to resolve your laptop touchpad not working issue after trying the solutions on this page, the touchpad is likely non-functional due to a hardware problem. In this case,  you are recommend to send your laptop to a computer repair shop for further analysis, or buy a wireless/wired/bluetooth mouse to take its place.

Bluetooth Devices Not Working after Installing Windows 10

fix bluetooth not working on windows 10

After the Windows 10 upgrade by Microsoft, various issues happened on bluetooth devices.

1. "I just bought some new bluetooth headphones and they are working great with the new  Windows 10 upgrade. But my phone is not able to send files through bluetooth OR WiFi. It shows that they are paired up and that was not problem, but there is no transfer taking place. It is quite annoying."

2. "Since I installed Windows 10 yesterday (upgrade from 8.1), my Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 (yes, yes, Microsoft!) is no longer detected.
I'm trying everything I can to get it working on my Samsung laptop but to no avail.
Microsoft don't even offer a single driver download for this mouse so I really don't know what to do."

3. "After 8.1 to 10 Windows update, bluetooth has issues on a Pavillion x2.
No bluetooth icon.
Device manager says device fine.
Update driver icon for bluetooth device dimmed could not select.
Uninstalled device, still no work.
Digging into device manager for the Mediatec bluetooth adapter, I found ERR 441 kernel PnP."

How to Resolve Bluetooth Issues on Windows 10?

For bluetooth mouse, try the fix below:
  • Remove the mouse from Settings > Devices > Bluetooth > Manage Bluetooth Devices
  • Uninstall the Generic Microsoft Bluetooth device: Device Manager > Bluetooth. Click "Scan for hardware changes", then Windows will automatically identify the bluetooth adapter and install a correct device driver
  • Press pairing button on mouse
  • Go back to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth> Manage bluetooth devices and see if your mouse is listed as "ready to pair".

For bluetooth driver issues, try the fix below:

1. Completely uninstall the old bluetooth driver
  • Start > Input Device Manager > Press enter to open the Device Manager
  • Scroll down the devices list and find your Bluetooth device
  • Spread it and double click to open the Properties window
  • Click Driver tab > Uninstall
Note that sometimes there will be leftovers and broken registry files in the uninstallation from Device Manager. In this case, it is important to use automatic driver uninstaller to completely uninstall drivers.

2. After the driver uninstallation, reinstall the new driver for bluetooth device

To reinstall the driver, you can restart computer and let Windows search for and download, install driver.

However, I would recommend third party automatic driver install tool which will identify the missing driver and install correct and best-matched driver with one click.
Read more about uninstall and reinstall drivers for Windows here.

If the methods outlined above still can't solve your problem, try installing the package from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48231. After that, restart your computer.

After Windows 10 update, there are similar audio problems on various brand computers.

On Lenovo Computer:

"After my upgrade to Windows 10 on my Lenovo G780, it seems like my audio isn't functioning anymore. I tried to plug in my headset as well to check if I had audio coming through that, but it does not appear in the Playback Devices window when plugged.

The laptop comes with Conexant SmartAudio HD and also lists High Definition Audio Device under Device Manager.

Could anyone help me out and let me know if there's some problems I am overseeing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You."

Shutting down computer completely, which is quite different from shutting it down in the hybrid shut down mode.

  • After it completely shut down, reboot it again. Note that this boot-up may take a little longer than usual.

Fix 3: Uninstall and Reinstall Audio Driver

If you get a driver error with you also and are told to re-install the driver or reboot, then the problem may be resulted from incorrect driver. If it failed, try going to manufacture's website to download and install the latest drivers. However, be sure to uninstall drivers before installing new driver or there
may be conflicts because of the old driver's leftover or broken registry files.

Fix 4: Uncheck Enable Audio Enhancements

If you are using a Relteak audio, then follow this:

Fix Nvidia Driver Issues after Windows 10 Upgrade

display driver is not working in Windows 10

After the Windows 10 upgrade, users are facing various glitches including display crashes, WiFi cannot connect, bluetooth issues, audio not working. And the most reported issue is the GPU driver is not working. Thus, we will discuss how to fix this problem in this article.

How to Fix Display Driver Issue after Windows 10 Update?

The most basic and simple fix is to restart the system and see if it helps. However, in the Windows 10 update, this is not always working. So let's try other solutions.

Solution 1: Install the WHQL Driver Launched by NVIDIA

After the flowing reports from users that NVIDIA driver can't work on Windows 10, Nvidia released new driver 353.62 quickly to fix this issue. To install the up to date 353.62 driver, please follow the steps below:

1. Download Nvidia 353.62 driver from http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/87783, it is labeled with WHQL and the release date is July 29th, 2015.
2. It has a size of 278.91MB so you may need to wait a while until the download is done.
3. Install: When the driver download is complete, right click the installer and "Run as administrator".  Since the driver installation may fail without proper privileges, running as administrator is quite crucial.
4. Done and Restart Computer: Follow the onscreen guide to complete the driver installation and after it is done, restart computer to ensure the driver installation is taking effect normally.

Solution 2: Automatically Install Display Driver

In this weird case, automatic driver fix tool is important because it will completely remove the old and incompatible drivers and install the right ones automatically. From Device Manager, it might not completely uninstall the drivers manually so the problem may not be fixed.

Now let's try the free driver fix tool out: DriveTheLife, a free and easy-to-use, simple-interface program designed to help scan and find driver issues and complete the repair/update with one click.

Hope you can get through the Windows 10 update and fix problems.

Mandatory Automatic Updates on Windows 10 - Benefits and Drawbacks

Have you ever read the EULA when installing Windows 10? The new rule is much different than before and the biggest concern is "automatic updates without any additional notice" which basically indicates mandatory automatic Windows updates regardless if you want them or not.

It can't be denied that there are many benefits of getting Windows updates because you can always keep your computer up to date and benefit from the new features. However, there are inevitable side effects like many users reported:

"Automatic download, especially for drivers is a bad idea. They should be optional. A bad graphics driver can screw your whole week!"

"Please, stop with automatic GPU drivers download in the Windows Update."

Except the driver issues, users are also reporting problems on bluetooth and WiFi connectivity.

"Does anyone know if Bluetooth is working properly...? Only reason I uninstalled Windows 10 Preview was because Bluetooth speaker connection was hit and miss. It works flawlessly on 7"

"Network adapter for WiFi need to be reset on every boot."

There are more reports about the same issues and other such as problems with Intel and AMD, audio, mouse and touchpad drivers.

How to Resolve Driver Issues after Upgrading to Windows 10?

It is never an easy task to solve driver problems especially you are not familiar with computer working and connecting principle. Generally, there are 3 ways to fix driver issues. How to Repair Driver Issues for Windows Hardware Devices

Introduction

If you have any problems with your computer hardware, there is a possibility that the problem is resulted from driver issues since drivers are a type of software that acts as the middleman between your operating system and specific hardware components, such as a printer and monitor. If the driver is down, then the middleman is sick and can't convey the information correctly. That is why your hardware components don't respond.

This article demonstrated several methods that deserve a try to repair driver issues and make hardware working again.

Method 1: Restore Your Computer to a Point before Problems Began

Suppose that you do create a restore point before the problem showed up, you can restore your system to this point.

Start >All Programs >Accessories >System Tools >System Restore
Then follow the on-screen prompts to do the rest.

Note that this will restore all other settings and data in Disk C to the point where you created the restore point. So be careful if you have very important data that can't be erased in C.

Method 2: Uninstall Corrupted/Problematic Driver and Reinstall It

Another common way to fix driver problems is to uninstall and reinstall drivers.

1. Go to Device Manager and pull down the specific device driver.
2. Double click it to open the Properties window.
3. Click Driver tab and choose Uninstall.
4. Reboot after the uninstallation.

Windows will search for the missing driver and try its best to reinstall whatever driver it can. However, sometimes the automatic search and reinstall will fail due to various reasons. In this case, you may download and install specific driver from manufacture's website or use driver download and install tool to automatically do this.

Method 3: Restore Drivers from Backup If You Just Right Made the Backup Before

It is always a good habit to make a backup, either for data, programs or settings, configurations because you never know when accidents will happen and you need the old data/programs.

Windows does not provide us with a built-in option to backup and restore drivers so you need a 3rd party tool to complete this. Try 100% free and easy-to-use tool DriveTheLife.

1. Download, install and launch DriveTheLife.
2. It will start an automatic scan of all drivers without advanced configuration.
3. If you need to backup or fix drivers, just go ahead. All the features of this program is free.
4. Now let's skip all that to backup and restore driver. Go to Manage board and you will see three options: Backup, Restore and Uninstall.

If you have made backup before, just click Restore tab and it will display in the available list to restore.
5. Restart computer and done!

That's all for what I will demonstrate in this article to fix driver related problems. Updating drivers and rolling backup driver are also methods but they are similar to uninstall/reinstall drivers and restore to restore point so I won't write it here.

Motherboard Driver

What is a Motherboard Driver?

Motherboard is the most important part in your computer that controls nearly all the computer functions. Motherboard driver is a piece of software interfaces between the hardware motherboard and the system software.

Is It Necessary to Update Motherboard Driver?

Since the motherboard is the core component of your computer which controls the entire system and functionality, it is quite important to keep its driver in perfect status and ensure its features in top performance. Thus, checking for motherboard status and updating motherboard driver to the latest is likewise important. Note that always backup the drivers before updating. In case something unexpected happens or the latest driver is not compatible with your device, you can restore drivers from the backup.

Most of the  Motherboard driver issues or errors occur when the required driver is missing, corrupted or outdated.

Is There an Easy and Time-saving Way to Update/Install Motherboard Driver?

Originally, to update motherboard drivers, you must know the manufacturer and model of the motherboard. Then do a time-consuming search for the correct driver download. But now you have better and easier way, that is, use an automatic driver updater and finder utility. The recommended one is DriveTheLife, a free and easy-to-use driver updater tool which will help to scan missing, outdated or broken drivers automatically, download and install driver updates with one click, repair driver problems effortlessly, backup drivers for free, restore drivers from backup, remove unwanted drivers easily. How to Fix/Troubleshoot Motherboard Driver Problems?

In case there is something wrong with your motherboard driver, your computer won't work properly. However, you have below ways to fix it.

1. Roll Back Motherboard Driver to the Previous Version

Rollback driver is an inbuilt function in Windows Device Managers, which allows you to troubleshoot common driver-related errors. It is especially helpful when there is driver related problems after driver updated. Below is the simple steps to operate the driver roll back. I am using Windows 7, so the steps are taking Windows 7 as the example.
  • Start > Input Device Manager > Press Enter
  • In Device Manager, locate and double click your motherboard.
It should be under System devices and named SMBus xxx, or NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management, NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller, or VIA Standard Host Bridge, VIA I/O APIC Interrupt Controller or others.

  • In the Property window, click the Driver tab.

2. Use Driver Finder Tool to Scan Your Computer and Fix the Problem Automatically

Honestly, it is not an efficient way to resolve driver problems through Device Manager. It is tedious to identify and solve driver issues manually. Besides, you need to be proficient with computer to troubleshoot driver problems yourself.

So here comes the tool I recommended before, DriveTheLife. Just try it and see whether it could clear the problems out. If no vain, another workaround with it is to uninstall the motherboard driver and rescan your computer, after that, DriveTheLife will find the missing motherboard driver and select a best-matched one to install.

How to Install Latest Graphics Drivers after Fresh Install of Windows - Easy and Automatic

I am running a new computer build with the following specs:
Intel i7 4770
8gb corsair vengeance RAM (2 cards)
Asrock z87 Extreme3 Motherboard
Asus gtx 770 GPU
Xion 850W PSU

I was just trying to install the latest drivers after a fresh install of windows 8 for my GTX 770. It couldn't even finish installing before I got a Memory Management BSOD. Are any drivers more stable that I can use? I've heard nothing but bad things about all of the drivers available for my GPU.

Why Install Latest Display Card (GPU) Drivers?

There is always a debate on whether to install latest drivers or not. Personally, I would prefer the latest unless it is not compatible with the device. Reasons of installing latest graphics drivers are as follows:

  • For gamers, it is especially important to keep GPU driver up to date because the latest video drivers can resolve graphics issues/crashes and improve gaming experience.
  • Graphics driver is more often updated by manufactures, like once a month or more. So we should frequently check for graphics driver update to ensure we have the latest drivers installed.

How to Install the Latest Graphics Drivers - Keep GPU Drivers Up to Date

We have manual and automatic option to install the latest drivers.

For manual install, you need to determine the video card manufacture and its chipset manufacture (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD/ATI, etc.) and model number, write down the chipset manufacture which provides you with the driver. It is not that hard to identify the manufactures but it is never so easy. When determination is complete, visit manufacture's website and see whether there is newer driver for your device.

For automatic install, it is much easier! You don't need to determine the device manufacture and visit their website, you only need to download and install a driver finder and updater program, here totally free tool DriveTheLife is recommended and taken as the example to prove how easy it is to automatically update graphics drivers.

Step 1: Download and install DriveTheLife. >>DriveTheLife official site
Step 2: When the installation is done, it will start an automatic scan for all your drivers
Step 3: Go to Download board, if there are any drivers available to update, it will show you and let you update all with one click.

Note that all the drivers provided by DriveTheLife is official or WHQL. We don't make drivers, we only move the drivers from official site or WHQL agent, gather ,well order and estimate them so that to provide you with the best matched drivers.

Cool Tip: If you have serious display problems on Windows 8 and it is not the source of hardware, you might as well try downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7. Sometimes driver performs terribly on Windows 8 but perfectly on Windows 7.

How to Do a Driver Rollback - Restore Driver That isn't Working to Its Previous Version

We always believe a myth that the new is the better. And it is truly a principle that the new is the improvement of the old, in most cases. However, there is exception. The best example people may want to break this myth is when they encounter problems with their computer after updating a device driver.

Note that even sometimes driver update could bring unexpected accident, it does not mean all driver update is bad and we should reject all driver update. For example, for gamers, updating GPU driver is quite important to get new features, faster speed and better experience.

Tip: In order to revert to your driver, you are always suggested to backup drivers before updating

How to Fix Crashed Computer Resulted from a Driver Update?

If you are unlucky to suffer from crashed games, blue screens, dead computer, etc. after upgrading your driver, the easy and efficient fix is to roll back the updated drivers to the old version. To roll back drivers, you have 2 options.

Option 1: Using DriveTheLife to Reinstall Drivers to Whichever Version You Like

DriveTheLife is a free and simple tool that helps resolve driver problems, update outdated drivers, backup, restore and uninstall drivers for Windows hardware devices. After download, install and launch, it will start an automatic scan of the drivers and list the missing/corrupted ones, not backed up ones, normal ones by category.

If you just updated the driver, it may be listed in the normal list. Sometimes, DriveTheLife will also identify the updated driver that ruined your computer and prompt you to fix it. If it can't identify the driver, it is not disputable since it identifies it as the latest ones.

If the driver is in the normal list, locate it and pull the dropdown menu of version where will show all the versions including the latest and the old. Choose the version you want and click reinstall.

How Can I Download and Install Drivers without Internet - Drivers Offline Install

I have recently installed Windows 7, but just as in previous versions, I need a driver for wireless. The Ethernet cable on my laptop never worked, so that's not an option. When I open additional drivers, it will say can't detect drivers; need internet access. I'm not connected to a network nor have the driver so I can't use automatic search function either.

So what can I do? I'm new so if someone can explain in detail I would be grateful.

It is a big concern to offline download and install network drivers especially after a fresh install of system without a driver disc.

Method 1: Downloading and Installing Direct Network Driver Package

Things you should make sure of before installing:

Steps:

It is very easy if you have made sure of all the above.
  1. Use the internet-available computer to download the specific wireless driver.
  2. Transfer it to your computer.
  3. Click the driver installer to install.

Method 2: Using Special Driver Finder to Automatically Download and Install Network Driver

Things needed:
  • An internet-available computer
  • A hard disk, USB stick or some other removable storage devices (It is used to save the software installer for transfer)
Steps:

In this method, you don't need to look into your network card model and don't need to worry about which driver is the correct. All will be done by the driver finder DriveTheLife for Network Card

How to Fix Network Adapter Drivers and Make Internet Running

No Driver for Network Adapter. How Do I Get My Internet Running?

"I just installed Windows 8 on my brand new build. It's telling me I'm missing network adapter drivers and therefore cannot connect. How do I get the necessary drivers without internet? Seems like a vicious circle. And for those wondering, I posted this from my phone. I'm using a hardline for my computer. No WiFi. Help!"

This is really a common problem for those who don't have a driver disc which came with the Windows system.  After a clean Windows install/restore, the most ordinary gadget to make computer running is the internet access, then all can be down on the internet. I mean, you can download needed programs, search for needed information, etc.

But as is said in the above, if there is no drivers, you cannot connect to the internet; Without the internet connection, you are unable to download drivers on your computer. What a vicious circle!

How to Fix Network Driver Problems?

We can fix all drivers but network drivers by Windows Update, Device Manager Update or driver finder software through an available internet. But what if there is no internet connection? Let's explore the tricks.

# 1 One way is to make clear which driver you need and download it from manufacture's website or other authorized sites using another network-available computer. Save the driver installer (it should be end with zip or exe) on a hard drive and transfer the installer to your computer to install.

# 2 Alternatively, the other easier way is to use an automatic driver finder software DriveTheLife for Network Card, a supplement program of DriveTheLife.

  • Download DriveTheLife for Network Card from another network-available computer and save it on a hard drive.
  • Transfer the installer to your computer and double click to install it.
  • In the process of installing DriveTheLife, it would download and install correct network drivers according to your network adapter.

What is the Advantage of Using DriveTheLife for Network Card Instead of Downloading Drivers Directly?

Personally, DriveTheLife for Network Card is recommended. Reasons are:

1. You don't need to look into network adapter model and search for drivers by yourself.
2. Except for installing network drivers, DriveTheLife for Network Card will check for your computer and find all missing, corrupted and outdated drivers.
3. You can backup, restore and uninstall drivers with DriveTheLife for Network Card
4. If needed, you can keep it as a must-have program on your computer to keep your drivers up to date and running normally.
